Ethics, Errata, Plagiarism and Responsibilities

Texas Southern Journal of Media Innovation and Creative Communication (TSJMICC) follows the ethical guidelines set by the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). They prioritize quality in educational manuscripts and adhere to standards for relationships with readers, authors, and reviewers. Authors can address complaints by using the Contact link.

Author responsibilities:

Authors are responsible for submitting original, plagiarism-free manuscripts and citing references properly. All authors should have contributed significantly to the project and must not submit the same article to multiple journals. The corresponding author must ensure all co-authors approve the manuscript. Authors should participate in peer review, disclose conflicts of interest and financial support, and promptly notify the journal of any corrections or retractions needed.

Competing interests

A conflict of interest, also known as a competing interest, can arise when financial, commercial, legal, or professional relationships could influence your research. When submitting a paper to a journal, authors must disclose any conflicts of interest. The journal editor will use this information to make editorial decisions and may publish disclosures to help readers assess the article. Conflicts of interest can be declared in a cover letter or submission form. Transparency is key, and both financial and non-financial conflicts should be disclosed.

Reviewer’s responsibilities

TSJMICC Reviewers respect the original ideas and intellectual property of authors, maintain confidentiality of manuscripts, and disclose any conflicts of interest. They provide an objective evaluation of the manuscript and suggest improvements. They do not use privileged information for personal or institutional gain.

Editor responsibilities

Journal editors are responsible for ensuring high quality manuscripts, maintaining academic integrity, selecting qualified reviewers, making editorial decisions, and preventing misconduct. The Editor-in-Chief has final responsibility for all manuscripts and ensures the quality of articles through pre-screening and approval of final decisions. Plagiarism is screened using Copyscape and any misconduct allegations are dealt with promptly, including retracting or correcting articles as needed. Corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies will be published when necessary.
